Pynopticon is a Python library that records the last n frames before save is called to disk, and optionally youtube. I think this is incredibly useful if you just want to save the most relevant moments, without wasting resources.
Using the integrated HTTP server, it can be run on an external computer (like an rpi!). This also features live video streaming.
